Longford Community School - New Quadrangle

Feltham, London TW14

Feasibility Study and concept design

This was a proposal to exploit the potential of the existing building, superimposing a new roof structure cover the quadrangle, thereby offering new open area indoor teaching facilities, assembly and performance spaces such as an open auditorium and raised mezzanines, improved/all-weather circulation, and social and house-based activities plus two new self contained classrooms.

The roof was designed as a lightweight ETFE (transparent inflatable cushions) covering - similar to that used at the Eden Project in Cornwall - supported via bespoke designed multi-coloured timber trusses. The total area covered would have been some 675 sq.m. (7,265 sq.ft.).
